FEDERER ENTERS DUBAI TOURNAMENT SEMIS

DUBAI: Roger Federer squandered two match points in the second set but still prevailed 6-3, 6-7 (6-8), 6-3 over Novak Djokovic in the quarter-finals of the Dubai Tennis Championship on Thursday.

It extended his winning streak to 39 matches.

However, defending champion Rafael Nadal lost 6-7 (5-7), 3-6 to unseeded Russian Mikhail Youzhny.

Youzhny defeated Sweden's Robin Soderling 7-5, 6-2 to reach his second successive final yesterday.

WILSON CLAIMS JOHNNIE WALKER LEAD

PHUKET: Two superb eagles propelled Briton Oliver Wilson to the top of the leaderboard with a six-under-66 on the second day of the Johnnie Walker Classic yesterday.

He eagled two par-fives, the 11th and 15th, to move one shot ahead of South African Anton Haig with a total of 134.

Haig's 64 was the day's best score at the US$2.44 million (S$3.72 million) tournament, which is being staged at the Blue Canyon Country Club.

Australian James Nitties had a 67. He shared third place with South Africa's Retief Goosen (68) on 136.
